SHOW INTENTIONS:
The WHITElight show invites artists to put the colour white under the light. To look at white not only as an inclusive space on the colour spectrum (white does contain ALL other colours), but also as metaphor, material, and mood. We are looking for works that reveal through restraint, find beauty in simplicity, truth in minimalism, hope in brightness. Expect artworks that speak in whispers rather than shouts, artworks that evoke:
Beginnings. Absence. Calm. Quiet. Innocence. Perfection. Simplicity. Ease. Emergence. Restoration. Tranquility. Otherworldliness. Clarity. Stillness. Reflection. Possibility. Cleanliness. Antisepsis. Sparseness. Coldness. Emptiness. Aging. Endings.
Artists! Probe the paradox of white: its ability to both conceal and reveal, its associations with both life and sterility, birth and erasure, light and death, calm and chaos. The WHITElight show will be a meditation on what lies veiled beneath the surface—and the blank slate of what is yet to come. Join us as we immerse ourselves in a world stripped to essentials in this season of excess.
We welcome works in all mediums.
All work will be juried by an independent juror: Kevin Keliher. https://www.dreamscapeimages.c...
Preparing your Work for the Juror
The Juror of the show will only see your image, medium and artist statement. You will have 1000 words to create an artist statement that situates the work submitted with your artist practice and the theme of the show. It is important that you spend some time composing it as it will be used by the juror in considering how the works with the theme and understand the nature of the work. Please keep in mind your statement will be used verbatim in the exhibition book that will be send to the Library and Archives Canada, as a permanent record of the exhibition and your work. For image quality, see submission guidelines on the Metchosin ArtPod website.
