Terms & Conditions for Entry

This is a family friendly show. Please take this into consideration before submitting entries. Compliance with all terms and conditions for entry into this exhibition is required. The UWS Exhibition Committee reserves the right to refuse any work for unacceptable quality, improper framing, damage caused by shipment, or for non-compliance with these terms and conditions. Any work, once selected by the juror, later found to be out of compliance with any term or condition, will be disqualified from the exhibition. Any artist who submits work later disqualified or who withdraws work once selected, may be banned from participating in UWS sponsored exhibitions for a period of up to two (2) years. The UWS Exhibition Committee’s determinations and decisions are final.

ENTRY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Each participant must be a current member of the Utah Watercolor Society. Participants are limited to a total of three (3) entries.
All work must be original. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work or works created under instruction can be submitted. All reference photographs used to create the work must be taken by the artist. Use of copyrighted sources is strictly prohibited. Artificial Intelligence or AI, may not be used in any way for a painting entered into a Utah Watercolor Society show. You may not submit a painting that was created using AI as a helper, or which used AI to help improve a completed painting. All paintings must be the completely original work of the artist submitting the painting(s), from conception to completion.
All works must have been completed within the last two years and may not have been previously exhibited or accepted into a juried exhibition sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society or WFWS.
All works must be painted in water media and in a primarily aqueous manner.
Acceptable water media includes watercolor, gouache, water-based dyes, ink, acrylic, casein, and egg tempera. Any questions on acceptable media should be discussed with the Exhibition Coordinator, prior to entry submission.
Water media on paper, clay board, canvas or experimental surfaces may be submitted for this show.
No water-based oils or alcohol-based dyes.
No three-dimensional art.
No digital art.
A work that is primarily collage must use water media paper painted by the artist.
Work that is mixed media/collage must use at least 75% water-based media in conjunction with other media, such as pastel, ink, crayon, and printed collage papers. These other media may not be the dominant element.
The unframed image may be no smaller than 100 square inches, and no larger than 330 square inches or 11”x 15” (half sheet). Do not include the frame when determining size. To determine eligible size, multiply height by width of unframed painting. The resulting number must be 100 or greater. For example, 8”x 10” = 80 square inches (too small) or 10”x 10” =100 square inches (eligible for entry).
Unpainted borders of the completed works may not show in the uploaded image. Works must be cropped to the edges of the painted area only or they may be disqualified.

FRAMING REQUIREMENTS

Accepted paintings must be ready to hang with wire supports and sturdy frames.
Paintings may be framed in a traditional manner with mats and glass.
Paintings may have a varnished or glazed finish for this show. These paintings may be framed without glass.
Stable frames and professional backing materials are required.
All works must be framed. (Simple frames are preferred as well as Plexiglas™ when framing with glass.) Gallery- wrapped paintings will not be accepted.

ENTRY FOLLOW-UP

Artists are responsible for following up on their ArtCall entries. Entry results will be sent by email on the date given in ArtCall. If you haven’t received an email by the stated date, check your junk or spam mailboxes first, then contact the exhibition coordinator if you still have questions.
Paintings which have been changed or painted on after juror selection and acceptance into the exhibition will be disqualified. Paintings must be exactly like the image files submitted to ArtCall.
Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of selected work to and from the exhibition venue. See “Calendar of Events,” above, for artwork delivery and pickup dates.
All delivery costs, including shipping/handling fees where applicable, are the responsibility of the artist.
Works juried into this exhibition must be delivered for the exhibition dates and remain for the duration of the show unless sold.
Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, or withdraw the work once selected by the juror. Artists whose work is selected but not delivered to the exhibition venue will be considered withdrawn. Artwork deemed out of compliance with this prospectus’ terms and conditions and therefore disqualified will be considered withdrawn.
No changes in price or other entry details can be made after the submission deadline. By entering this show, the artist enters a contract with the gallery or other exhibition venue, which will be the acting agent for the sale of artwork.
While utmost care will be taken in handling entries and artwork, neither UWS nor its representatives can be held responsible for damage or loss from any cause.
Upon acceptance into this exhibition, each artist grants, in perpetuity, permission for UWS to publish digital and print images of his/her accepted artwork. These images may be used for the purpose of education, publicity to promote UWS exhibitions, digital and print UWS communications such as UWS Newsletters and archives.
