About the Exhibition
“Salon des Refusés” is French for “exhibition of rejects.” The phrase was originally coined about the artists who were rejected by the jury of the official Paris Salon in 1863, and who organized their own exhibit to show their artwork. Many of these artists became part of the Impressionist movement. 
All artists, at one time or the other, face rejection slips from juried shows. It is part of how it goes for us. It might be that there is not enough gallery space for all the pieces submitted to a show. There is the personal subjectivity of the juror in selecting work for an exhibit. Or maybe the work did not perfectly fit an exhibition theme. Whatever the cause, we’ve all experienced it. 
So let’s celebrate that process with a “Salon des Refusés!” Let’s exhibit some work that did not get selected for an exhibit. 
The Learning Art Center at the Armory and the Montgomery Art Guild will organize and host this show. Make sure to read all the information in the drop down menus at the top of your browser window and under the terms and conditions link at the bottom of this page.
The first 90 pieces submitted to the show will be put on display. No piece can be larger than 32 inches on its longest side including the frame. 
NOTE: There is no fee to enter this show, but you MUST BE a member of the Montgomery Art Guild. You can join the guild via the guild's website at this link: Montgomery Art Guild membership. The membership fee is $35 for one year. We will correlate all show entries with our membership list.
The call will open Wednesday, May 21 and close, either when we reach 90 pieces of submitted artwork, or on Sunday, June 22 at the end of the day.
We will take in artwork on Tuesday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 2, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gallery at the Learning Arts Center at the Armory, 1018 Madison Avenue in downtown Montgomery (next to the Curb Market). Art work must be delivered during these times. If you cannot make these time then designate someone to bring the work for you. 
The exhibit open with a reception on Friday, July 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
