Dia de los Muertos a vibrant, multi-day Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief, joyful reunion. Established and emerging artists (ages 14 and above) are invited to submit images of completed work for consideration. Emerging artists are defined as those who create art as a hobby or are still developing their skills, with little or no public recognition, exhibitions, or sales. Established artists are defined as professionals who have formal training in the arts and an established presence through exhibiting in museums or galleries, and whose main economic activity is making art.A Best in Show prize of $1,000 will be awarded to a single piece. Ribbons will be awarded to the winner in each media category for an emerging artist and an established artist. This juried exhibition will be held at The Center for the Arts & Sciences and hosted by Brazosport Fine Arts Council. The exhibit will run from October 6 - November 2, 2026.Brazosport Fine Arts Council, Lake Jackson Historical Association, Freeport Historical Museum, Freeport Main Street, Brazoria County Historical Museum, Brazoria County Library System, Brazosport LULAC, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Brazoria County are collaborating this fall to honor Hispanic & Latino culture with a monthlong, county-wide celebration of Dia de los Muertos throughout October and early November 2026.A reception and awards presentation for artists accepted into the exhibition and their guests will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. ADMISSION FEESubmission is open to the public. The entry fee is $15 per submission, up to 3 submissions. Additional, incomplete or late submissions will not be accepted.Note: ArtCall uses the term "Application" to refer to a submission. You may submit up to 3 "Applications" (submissions) for your $45 fee.SUBMISSIONSAll genres and styles that fit the theme of the exhibition will be accepted, both 2D and 3D. Eligible media includes, but is not limited to, paintings, oil, chalk, pastels, ink, drawings, photography, mixed media, ceramics, sculptures, metal work, wood work and fiber art. All submitted works must be the original creation of the artist. Artwork generated wholly or partially by artificial intelligence (AI) will not be accepted and the curator's decision is final and cannot be appealed. If a work is selected and some AI use is detected, the artist will be asked to provide a portfolio to show a consistent, recognizable body of work and the progress of the submitted art. All pieces must not have been previously submitted in our 2025, 2024, or 2023 Los Vivos y Los Muertos exhibitions.Please submit images for up to 3 artworks for consideration by August 31, 2026. Please submit closely cropped photos that clearly represent the art. Please submit photos of all sides of the piece if it is three-dimensional. Please include the year of completion, size, media type, art statement, and 50–80-word summary describing the inspiration and meaning of the piece. The show will be curated by visual art professionals. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, and the submission fee is non-refundable.Due to the public, family-friendly nature of the exhibition space, art including nudity or highly controversial images or subject matter will not be selected. All pieces must be of the PG rating.ART SPECIFICATIONSArtists will be notified of acceptance into the show the week of September 14, 2026.Art pieces may not exceed 48 inches in any direction (including the frame) and may not exceed 20 pounds in weight.All submitted work must be ready-to-hang with wire taut at the upper fourth of the frame. Saw hook hanging will not be accepted. All works on 1/2” canvases should be framed. All the works on 1” to 2” canvases must have neatly painted edges if not framed.Artists will not be allowed to install their own work.Art may be listed for sale. If shipping work, each artist must provide a pre-paid UPS or FedEx return shipping label including insurance. Please pack your work in sturdy, reusable packaging.Art will be on display at The Center for the Arts & Sciences from Tuesday, October 6 through Monday, November 2, 2026.Local artists may pick up their work Tuesday, November 3 through Friday, November 6, 2026 between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily. El Día de los Muertos es una vibrante festividad mexicana de varios días en la que las familias dan la bienvenida al regreso de las almas de sus seres queridos fallecidos para un breve y alegre reencuentro.Se invita a artistas emergentes y consolidados (de 14 años en adelante) a presentar imágenes de obras terminadas para su consideración. Los artistas emergentes se definen como aquellos que crean arte como pasatiempo o que aún están desarrollando sus habilidades, con poco o ningún reconocimiento público, exposiciones o ventas. Los artistas consolidados se definen como profesionales con formación formal en las artes y una presencia establecida mediante exposiciones en museos o galerías, cuya principal actividad económica es la creación artística.Se otorgará un premio Best in Show de $1,000 a una sola obra. También se entregarán cintas de reconocimiento al ganador de cada categoría de medio artístico, tanto para un artista emergente como para un artista consolidado.Esta exposición con jurado se llevará a cabo en The Center for the Arts & Sciences y será organizada por Brazosport Fine Arts Council. Incluya el año de finalización, dimensiones, tipo de medio, declaración artística y un resumen de 50 a 80 palabras que describa la inspiración y el significado de la obra.La exposición será seleccionada por profesionales de las artes visuales. La presentación de una obra no garantiza su aceptación y la cuota de inscripción no es reembolsable.Debido a la naturaleza pública y familiar del espacio expositivo, no se seleccionarán obras que incluyan desnudos ni imágenes o temas altamente controvertidos.
