Echos Across Time
CALL FOR ART - Art Inspired by Music, Memory & the Passage of Time. In conjunction with the Arizona Philharmonic “Echoes Across Time” Concert – February 14, 2027
The Mountain Artists Guild invites artists to submit work for Echoes Across Time, an exhibition exploring the connections between music, memory, place, emotion, culture, and the passage of time.
Across centuries and cultures, music has carried stories, emotions, and traditions from one generation to another. Like visual art, it can transport us to another place or time, awaken nostalgia, express joy and loss, and connect us through shared experiences.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly. Your artwork does not need to illustrate a particular composition. Instead, consider what the music awakens in you—a memory, place, person, feeling, culture, moment in history, or echo from the past.
Musical Inspiration
Handel – Violin Sonata in D Major, HWV 371 Expressive, dramatic, joyful, and elegant, Handel's Baroque sonata offers inspiration through movement, ceremony, contrast, light and shadow, and the passage of time.
Fazıl Say's Four Cities - Inspired by four Turkish cities, Four Cities explores place, culture, history, tradition, and contemporary life. Consider landscapes, architecture, travel, cultural heritage, or places that have shaped who you are.
Tchaikovsky – Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 50 Written in memory of Tchaikovsky's friend Nikolai Rubinstein, this deeply emotional work explores grief, remembrance, nostalgia, beauty, joy, and loss—inviting reflection on relationships, meaningful memories, and people who have influenced our lives.
Finding Your Inspiration
Art, like music, has the power to bring memories to life. A color, landscape, object, texture, or familiar image can instantly transport us to another time.
Consider exploring memory and nostalgia, childhood, family traditions, cultural heritage, meaningful places, remembrance, changing landscapes and cities, connections between generations, rhythm and movement, or music translated into color, shape, and texture.
Artists are welcome to work in their own style and medium, including painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber, and photography.
What echoes across time for you?
Listen to the music. Remember a place. Revisit a moment. Honor a person. Capture an emotion.
Then allow that echo to become art.
