Genesis Gallery is delighted to announce an open call for art for our upcoming exhibition, "Brushstrokes & Bookshelves: Where Art Meets Literature." We invite artists of all disciplines to submit their interpretations of the intersection between visual art and literature."Brushstrokes & Bookshelves" aims to explore the rich symbiosis between these two creative realms, where words inspire images and images evoke stories. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from literature in all its forms – from classic novels and poetry to contemporary fiction and non-fiction – and translate it into captivating visual expressions.Submissions may take the form of paintings, drawings, illustrations, sculptures, mixed media works, or any other artistic medium that reflects the theme. Whether it's a literal interpretation of a beloved literary scene or a more abstract exploration of themes, characters, or emotions found in literature, we welcome diverse interpretations that showcase the dynamic interplay between art and storytelling.Selected artworks will be featured in a dynamic exhibition at Genesis Gallery, providing artists with the opportunity to showcase their work to a diverse audience of art enthusiasts and literary aficionados. In addition to the physical exhibition, selected artists will also be promoted through our gallery's online platforms and social media channels.To submit your artwork for consideration, please visit our website and follow the guidelines outlined in the open call. Selection Criteria:

Submissions will be screened by a panel, including Genesis Gallery curators and invited guest jurors, to ensure quality and applicability of work. Artworks will be selected based on creativity, originality, and alignment with the theme. Please note that depending on the number of submissions, our curation process, and other factors, not all submitted works are guaranteed entrance into our show. While we strive to include works from as many artists as possible, please know that we do not tolerate submissions that promote hate, racism or violence against others. We reserve the right to refuse any submission that does not adhere to or promote our mission. We will notify you within the timeframe indicated herein regarding the acceptance of your work(s).

Eligibility

This exhibition is open to all professional and amateur artists. All mediums are welcome. Any mailed artwork will be at the expense of the artist.

Guidelines

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $30 for up to 3 pieces for open calls. Artist with studios inside the Lakewood UMC building have a discounted, non-refundable entry fee of $20 for up to 3 pieces for open calls. Limited entrance fee scholarships are available for artists who are experiencing economic hardship, for artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and for artists who identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please email gallery@lumc.net to request a scholarship. Genesis Gallery will retain a 30% commission on all works sold.

Submission to the open call constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to the conditions set forth in this prospectus. Submitting an application and application fee in no way guarantees acceptance into the exhibition Genesis Gallery reserves the right to final curatorial, educational, and installation decisions. The Genesis Gallery may use your image(s) for marketing and catalog purposes, and will credit the artist in that case.

All artwork must be framed and ready to hang, please include framing and matting in your artwork dimensions. Accepted art must reflect the image of the work that was submitted digitally for jurying. Genesis Gallery reserves the right to reject any artwork not meeting these guidelines at any time. We will notify you within the timeframe indicated herein regarding the acceptance of your work(s).

Promotion:

The selected artworks and artists will be featured in promotional materials, press releases, and social media platforms. Artists are encouraged to share their journey and insights into the creative process, fostering a sense of community among participants.

Art Pick Up:

Art pickup is currently scheduled for Sunday, August 4, noon-3 pm. Anything that requires shipping will be paid for by the artist.

PLEASE NOTE: Once pickup times are confirmed, you MUST pick up your work(s) during those times, or make alternate arrangements prior to pickup day. We cannot hold works past the show close date. If works remain in our gallery, we hold no liability on pieces and reserve the right to charge a $5 holding fee, per day. Artwork left longer than 30 days becomes the property of Genesis Gallery.
