Artists in Bloom: The Art of Goodale Park

Online submissions: May 1 - July 31, 2024

Central Ohio Artists are invited to showcase their artistic talents in the first Friends of Goodale Park, Artists in Bloom exhibition featuring work inspired by Goodale Park.  

As the beauty of Spring and Summer are upon us opportunities for artist abound in Goodale Park. Goodale Park is the oldest park in Columbus and among the oldest in the United States. It is covered with over 300 species of trees and a variety of planting beds filled with vibrant flowers. The park is also home to the colorful Community Festival and Pride events. All which provide wonderful, unique opportunities to create art. 

Exhibition dates: September 7, 2024 - September 28, 2024. Selected works will be on display in the First Commonwealth Bank, located at 647 N High St Columbus, OH 43215.

The Opening Reception will be on September 7, 2024 starting at 4:00PM.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
You must be a resident of Central Ohio and 18 years of age.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To submit a piece for consideration the art must be the following:

Feature the scenes of Goodale Park or its inhabitants
Created within the last three years
Original to the artist
Mindful of subject matter; artwork that is overly graphic, political or lewd will not be considered
Wall art:  Acrylic, oil, photography, watercolor, drawing, printing, glass, mixed media, other

The physical submission requirements:

Minimum Dimensions are 8 in x 10 in
Maximum Dimensions are 36 in x 36 in
Work must be ready to hang with appropriate hardware and framing included

General Requirements:

Submit between one (1) and two (2) artworks per artistInclude detail images and varying points of view if you choose to submit more than one imageSaved digital images as JPEG or pdf fileMake sure the images are clear and well-lit

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Accepted artwork must be dropped off in the First Commonwealth Bank, September 3 & 4, 2024 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.      All artwork will not be insured by the Friends of Goodale Park or the First Commonwealth Bank from drop-off to pick-up.  The Artists in Bloom: Art of Goodale Park Show will only accept the specific artwork that has been selected by the jurors. No substitutions may be made.

Call for entries opens: Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 8 a.m.
Call for entries deadline: Friday July 31, 2024, 11 p.m.
Notice of acceptance to the exhibition: the week of August 26, 2024
Artwork drop-off: September 3, 4, 2024
Opening Reception: Saturday September 7, 2024, 4:00 p.m. ....
Artwork picked up: Tuesday, Wednesday October 1, 2, 2024

JURORS

Marcus Blackwell

Marcus P. Blackwell is a self-taught mixed media artist and digital illustrator based in Columbus, Ohio. His works focus on themes of Afrofuturism, dreams, folklore and mythology, and social commentary. He has no poker face.

Lynda McClanahan

Lynda McClanahan is an award winning artist and long-time local resident who lives and works in Victorian Village.  Lynda has supported the Friends of Goodale Park for many years and looks forward to seeing what other artists have to say about her much beloved park.  For more information about Lynda and her work, go to http://www.lyndamcclanahanart.com.

Sharon Weiss

A life-long collector and patron of the arts who brings a discerning eye and playful exuberance to Sharon Weiss Gallery at 20 East Lincoln St. in the Short North. Sharon has been a fixture of the gallery community for 30 years in Columbus.
