Art League of Baytown is pleased to host its first Upcycle Art Challenge Oct. 15 with co-sponsor Chevron Phillips Chemical Co.
The goal of the upcycling challenge is to raise environmental awareness by promoting action through reusing, recycling and repurposing materials to create art.
The contest categories are 1) decorative and 2) functional art pieces that serve a purpose. The creations may be 2D or 3D.
Each piece must feature 80 percent material recycled from some previous use. Glue, screws and other fastening devices are NOT included in the remaining 20 percent. A list of all parts must be included when the art is submitted online. The list must identify which parts are new (20 percent or less).
An artist’s statement must be included with the work to explain what the artist is conveying in the work or the object’s value, use or impact. This should not exceed 150 words.
Applications for the juried art show must be submitted online through ArtCall July 14 - Sept. 17, 2021.
Entries will be judged on visual impact, creativity/originality, composition/design, craftsmanship and material usage.
Open to residents of Baytown, La Porte, Mont Belvieu, Dayton, Crosby and Deer Park plus members of the Art League of Baytown. You may become a member at artleagueofbaytown.org. Individuals or teams (clubs, teams, families) can enter.
Creators may submit up to three works. The fee will be $20 for the first entry, $10 for the second and/or third entry. Titles and prices must be included on your entry forms and cannot be changed thereafter. Paying an entry fee does not ensure the artwork a place in the gallery exhibit and there are no refunds.
It is important that your digital images submitted to Art Call accurately reflect your work. Works which are found not to be accurately represented by the image submitted may be disqualified at the discretion of the juror. Works featuring violent, sensational or sexual content will not be displayed. Art League of Baytown and the juror reserve the right to reject any work deemed inappropriate for this exhibition for any reason.
