The Art League of Baytown in Baytown, Texas is pleased to announce our first fall juried art exhibition sponsored by the Port Houston Community Grant Program. The theme is “Art and the Ship Channel”. One of Port Houston’s key objectives is to add value in the communities where Port Houston operates, and strengthen the region served. The economic well-being, environmental health, and quality of life of the region are all of vital importance to Port Houston. Our priority Community Outreach art show will help with revitalizing communities, parks, and greenspaces with a focus on communities that are within three miles of the Ship Channel.
Awards totaling $2000.00 will be distributed to the winning artists.Best of Show -$300Honoree award: $2001st Place - $1752nd Place - $150 3rd Place - $1001st Honorable Mention - $75

The source of inspiration for your art should come from public parks, greenspaces, and communities with public access within 3 miles of the ship channel waterways. Do Not enter private properties without permission.
Submission Details: The artwork must have been completed in the past 5 years. It must be original in design, concept, and executed by the submitting artist. No nudes, cruelty, destruction, political statements, or violence in the art will be accepted.
Categories:
2-Dimensional (2D) works can consist of oils, water-based media, pencils, crayons, collage, mixed media, etc. All 2D artwork must be securely wired and ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers allowed. Wrapped canvases can be unframed, but the sides must be painted. Finished size can not exceed 48 x 48 inches, including frame. Art work must be dry. 3-Dimensional (3D) must not exceed 40 pounds and fit through the door. It will be weighed at intake. Size cannot exceed 48 x 48 x 72 inches. All parts bust be securely attached. If pieces fall off, it will not be displayed and you will be asked to fix it yourself. We are not responsible for pieces that fall off. No live plants, liquid, hazardous materials, or works needing electricity will be accepted. Battery operated is acceptable, but please supply replacement batteries. Photography - Photographs must be framed unless printed on canvas or metal and not exceed 48 x 48 inches. It must be securely wired and ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers allowed.
Artwork is NOT acceptable if: It is a copy of someone else's artwork. Created from a copyrighted online photo or a published image AI generated art or a copy of an AI generated image. Art depicts nudes, destruction, cruelty, political statements, or violence.
Entries will be judged on:
Visual Impact - overall impression and emotional impact of the artwork, including its ability to evoke feelings, thought, and responses from the viewer. Creativity/Originality - the creativity and originality of the artwork, including the artist's vision and approach to their work. Composition/Design - The harmonious arrangement of elements within the piece. The effective use of color and texture to enhance the visual experience. Craftsmanship/Technical skill - technical skill demonstrated by the artists in their work, including their use of materials knowledge and attention to detail. Materials Usage: resourcefulness, diversity, sustainability - the degree to which the artwork promotes environmental awareness.
Entry Images: 1920 pixels on longest side and under 5 mb. Save as: last name_title.jpeg 3 images allowed for 3D work
Delivery of accepted artwork: Thursday & Friday, Oct. 8-9, 11-4pm at the Art League of Baytown, 110 W. Texas Avenue. You may park in the lot behind the building off W. Defee St. If these dates are impossible for you, other arrangements need to be made by using the contact link. Artwork must be received before Oct. 8 in this case.
Sales/Pricing: It is preferred, but not mandatory that all works be for sale. All works for sale will be transacted through the Art League Baytown. The Art League will retain a 20% commission on each sale, so price your art accordingly.
All pieces must remain in the gallery until the show closes, even if sold. Sold pieces will be marked at time of sale. Artwork not sold can be picked at the end of the reception by the attending artists, or the following week during Art League's regular hours, Thursday & Friday, 11-4pm or Saturday, 11-6pm, Nov. 5-7. ID may be required.
Closing Reception/Marketing: The awards & closing reception will be held Friday, Oct. 30 from 6-8pm. We encourage participants to promote the show via social media and work of mouth. The show will be publicized through our website and social media, email blasts, gallery street signage, our members and other opportunities.
Agreement: Submission of the application and the piece(s) represented shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth in this prospectus, including that, while I understand that great care and all steps will be taken to mitigate the possibility of loss or damage, in submitting this application, I hereby release the Art League of Baytown, members, jurors, staff, volunteers, associates and boards from any and all claims occasioned by injury, illness, damage or loss of artwork while on the gallery premises. All juried entries must remain in the Art League of Baytown until the end of the show on Oct.30.
Permission to photograph and/or reproduce the work for publicity, documentary or educational purposes is hereby granted. This agreement will be signed on the day entries are delivered to the Art League of Baytown.
