Curated by Sergio Gomez and Susan AurinkoA collaboration between artists Kelly Mathews and Caren Helene Rudman

Location: OH Art Foundation 2nd fl of Zhou B Art Center, 1029 W. 35th St. Chicago, IL 60609Exhibition Dates:  March 21st, 2025 – May 10th, 2025Application Deadline: February 7, 2025

Exhibition Description:

This exhibition is the story of two journeys – one of the inherited cancers through the BRCA gene, one of mental illness and addiction, and the intrinsic sameness of the two.
One cannot live with inherited cancers without severe mental trauma, and one cannot live with mental illness and addiction without severe physical consequences.
Two women using the unique powers of the arts to become whole, evidence of the power of Neuroarts.
Neuroarts is the transdisciplinary study of how the arts and aesthetic experiences measurably change the body, brain, and behavior, and how this knowledge is translated into specific practices that advance health and wellbeing.
Healing through the Arts (12 x 12)
Inspired by the two person exhibition, A Whisper 2 a Scream, with artists Caren Helene Rudman and Kelly Mathews. The open call is curated by Sergio Gomez who is searching for work to accompany the exhibition at OH Art Foundation 2nd floor of Zhou B. Art Center.
Each piece must be 12 x 12, addressing how the mind and body, and/or health and disease are interconnected to reveal the most basic part of being human. As the awareness of mental health rises and our post covid reality reveals the vulnerability of our physical health, the work explores the theory that out of darkness comes light and creativity.
