Description

The Northwestern Law Journal Des Refuses invites artists to submit works of art that critically explore the ways they have been directly impacted by the law and American systems of justice at large. Some examples include but are not limited to personal or professional experience with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other disability related legal measures, marijuana legislation, the prison system, and intellectual property. This call seeks to engage artists in reflecting on the intersections of law, society, and individual experiences, with a focus on raising awareness and sparking meaningful conversations.

Artists are encouraged to submit works that explore one or more of the following themes:

1. **ADA: Breaking Barriers**
- Examine the ongoing struggles for inclusion, equality, and accessibility in various aspects of life stemming directly from legislative impact.

2. **Marijuana Laws: Unveiling Perspectives**
- Investigate the impact of marijuana laws on individuals, communities, and the criminal justice system.
- Address the disparities in the enforcement of marijuana laws and their consequences on marginalized populations.

3. **Prison System: Behind the Walls**
- Examine the human stories within the prison system, shedding light on issues such as mass incarceration, solitary confinement, and rehabilitation efforts.
- Question the societal implications and the role of the legal system in shaping the lives of those within the prison system.

4. **Intellectual Property: Ownership and Innovation**
- Explore the intricate balance between protecting intellectual property and fostering innovation.
- Delve into the ethical considerations surrounding copyright, patents, and trademarks, and their impact on the dissemination of knowledge and creative expression.

We welcome and encourage all submissions that challenge prevailing narratives, offer unique perspectives, and encourage viewers to consider the intersection of legal doctrine and lived experience.
