Description
Project Overview
In celebration of Route 66’s centennial and Springfield’s distinction as its birthplace, the city is launching a citywide sculpture series featuring uniquely designed Route 66 shield sculptures. Each sculpture will be transformed by a different artist, telling a story of community, heritage, and imagination.
These works will be publicly displayed in prominent and culturally rich locations, forming a self-guided art trail that encourages exploration, boosts tourism, and fosters local pride.
Artist Opportunity
We are seeking diverse, creative, and community-minded artists to bring these Route 66 shields to life. Selected artists will receive:
A $2,000 stipend to cover materials and labor ($1000 at sculpture pick-up and $1000 at completion)
A blank Route 66 shield sculpture (80” wide by 68” tall) to decorate — both sides (mirror images) must be completed
Promotion through the Springfield 66 marketing campaign
Public visibility through the display of your sculpture in the city
