Description

Mississippi is a place of noted potters, sculptures, painters, and folk artists. Communities across Mississippi offer thriving spaces for these working artist who channel the history, traditions, and cultural influences that have shaped Mississippi into new works that expand the voices and stories expressed in the arts.

This project aims to collect, share, and highlight the work of artists creating in communities across Mississippi. This project is made possible with funding from the Campbell Clinic, Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, Mississippi Arts Commission, the University of Mississippi Integrated Marketing and Communications program, the Mississippi Presenters Network, SouthArts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

This is your invitation to be included in the Sanctuary Arts Festival.

The project starts with invitations to Mississippi artists from arts council and cultural organizations through the Mississippi Presenters Network.

Artist selected will be featured in Oxford Magazine, featured in a podcast, and invited to a special art showcase in August 2024. This project will include a media campaign highlighting visual artists, recording interviews with the artists, and compiling artist stories into various media formats to highlight how Mississippi is a thriving place for the arts.

We invite you to be part of this project. The first step is a short survey. Then, based on survey responses, we will request an artist to attend an interview session with a professional documentary filmmaker.

We hope you will assist us in documenting the arts' impact on Mississippi communities and our culture.

Don't hesitate to contact the Yoknatpatawpha Arts Council Project Coordinator and Director for any questions regarding this campaign.
