Call for Exhibition Proposals
Marshall University’s School of Art & Design is pleased to invite artists for solo or group exhibitions at the Birke Art Gallery and Charles W. & Norma C. “Carroll” Gallery. This call for proposal is open to national and international artists at all career levels.
Submission deadline for exhibitions for the 2026-2027 academic year is October 10, 2025
Submission Guidelines:
1. Eligibility:
a. National and international artists are encouraged to apply.
b. Artists at all career levels are welcome.
c. No application fee.
2. Exhibition Spaces:
a. Birke Art Gallery: Our newest addition to SOAD’s Visual Arts Center, the Birke Art Gallery is located on the first floor and features large, store front windows facing the heart of downtown Huntington, WV. The Birke is 1300 sq ft and has a wall that divides the gallery in half, allowing for opportunities for larger solo-exhibitions or smaller features on either side. b. Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery: The Carroll Gallery is located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center and is the largest gallery at 2,000 sq ft and 13’ ceilings. The Carroll has the most control in lighting and is perfect for installation or multimedia artists, though all media and practices are welcome. 3. Submission Guidelines
a. Proposals for 2026-2027 academic year are due by October 10, 2025.
b. Submit the proposal as a single PDF including an exhibition statement of intent, artist statement, artist biography, C.V., and sample images of work to be exhibited. If the proposal document exceeds 24MB, a link to a sample images or the artist’s website should be included in the proposal.
c. Proposals are submitted via an online form at https://www.marshall.edu/art-galleries/general-call-for-proposals/
d. Proposals are reviewed on a rolling basis but must be submitted at least eight months prior to the requested exhibition dates.
