CALL FOR ARTWORK: Morris Cancer Center - Digital files for printing

COMMISSIONING ENTITY: RUTGERS CANCER INSTITUTE OF NEW JERSEY (RCINJ)in partnership withNEW BRUNSWICK DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (DEVCO), New Brunswick, NJ

DEADLINE: Sunday, November 24, 2024

PROJECT OVERVIEW: The Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ) is seeking artwork to be installed on the walls of exam and consult rooms in their new Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center.  Developed in partnership with the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), the 12 story, 520,000 square foot center will be a hub for treatment, patient services and research. This first-of-its-kind facility in New Jersey is scheduled to open in spring 2025.

ART THEME:
The hospital is building an extensive art collection to be enjoyed by patients, caregivers, and staff.  As scientific discovery is one the core pillars of the Rutgers Cancer Institute, we are seeking artwork on the theme of Recovery/Discovery: work that conveys the healing attributes of art while also expressing themes of creativity-exploration-discovery. This theme could also be expressed by responding to the hospital’s focus on science and research as a pathway to recovery.  Multiple interpretations of the theme of Recovery/Discovery are welcome. The artwork should also:

·       Foster a restorative environment for patients, families, caregivers, physicians, associates, students, and community.

·       Create a positive environment to redirect patients’ fears, pain, and loneliness, and encourage healing.

PROCESS:
Artists whose image(s) are selected will be responsible for supplying a digital file suitable for high-resolution printing.  Selected images may need to be revised or cropped to accommodate the dimensions of final print sizes, which will vary averaging 24” x 36” to 40” x 30”.   All files submitted for final production must be of sufficient quality to print @ 300 dpi up to these sizes.

Devco consultants JMC Art Partners will oversee the printing process on behalf of the artists.  Artists will retain ownership of their original artwork, while RCINJ will retain ownership and use of the printed reproductions.   Selected artwork will be printed solely for the purpose of display in the building. The prints will not be made for sale and will remain a part of the hospital’s art collection.

Artists will receive $2,000 for 1 image file.  The file will be used to produce a maximum of 6 prints to be displayed throughout the hospital.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Each applicant must submit the following by close of Sunday, November 24:

·       Up to 10 JPG images sized to 1920 pixels on the longest dimension. Image files should be titled:  LAST NAME_FIRST INITIAL_IMAGE TITLE
