Description

The Hatchery is a play development festival celebrating and supporting new works for the stage that center music and movement. It offers paid stipends to artist-collaborators, an 11-day rehearsal process and two public performances. The program takes place in the 2nd half of August at The Judy in downtown Portland, home of Northwest Children's Theatre and School.

Our community sourced project is chosen by application after review by our Selection Panel. The application is fairly straightforward and designed to maximize accessibility. Applications are due January 31, 2026.

Individuals and groups of devisers, makers, and movement-based theater artists are encouraged to apply, particularly if your process doesn’t adhere to a traditional, script-based process.
