2027 Winged Feet Exhibition and Auction

Create a Winged Foot! A Celebration of the Boston Marathon
The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) and 26.2 Foundation, both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, invite artists of all ages to submit a proposal for a one-of-a-kind Winged Foot—a public art project celebrating the Boston Marathon and the spirit of Hopkinton!
26 artists will be selected. Each selected artist will transform a blank Winged Foot into an original work of art. The finished pieces will be displayed outdoors on the Hopkinton Town Common from April 9–30, 2027, and then auctioned to benefit HCA and the 26.2 Foundation.
🪽 How It Works
If your proposal is selected:
You'll receive a blank Winged Foot cut from Versatex.
You'll be paired with a local business sponsor, selected at random.
Your sponsor will provide a $250 stipend to help cover your art materials.
Stipends will be paid at the opening reception. If you can't attend, your stipend will be mailed to you.
Your finished Winged Foot will become part of the outdoor public art display and will later be available for auction.
There is NO submission fee! When submitting, please use coupon code MARATHON.
 Let Your Creativity Take Flight!
Each Winged Foot will be approximately 2 feet wide by 3 feet high and will be mounted on a metal pole at approximately eye level.
Your design must be:
Related to the Boston Marathon or the sport of running.
Family-friendly and appropriate for all ages
Weather-resistant and able to withstand outdoor conditions
Original and ready for public display
You can use a variety of outdoor-friendly techniques and materials, including:
Artist-quality acrylic or outdoor paint
Assemblage
Mosaic
Other weather-resistant materials
Important Design Details
Make sure the foot points to the right! All Winged Feet need to face the same direction.
Only one side should be painted with your design. Please paint the back of the foot a solid color.
A metal pole will be attached to the back of the Winged Foot for installation.
Assemblage and mosaic designs must be coated in resin to ensure they are permanent and weather-resistant.
Please make sure your materials and finish can withstand being outdoors. If your Winged Foot arrives and isn't able to withstand the elements, it cannot be accepted and the artist will not receive the $250 stipend.
If your Winged Foot arrives and is not the same as your proposal it cannot be accepted and the artists will not receive the $250 stipend.
