2024 Young Tennessee Artists: Selections from Advanced Studio Art Programs
This exhibition will be on view from September 6, 2024, through February 16, 2025. We invite high school students participating in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) studio art programs during the 2023–24 school year to submit artwork for consideration. Details
About the Frist: Located in Nashville, the Frist Art Museum is a nonprofit art museum, with approximately 24,000 square feet of gallery space. It presents the finest visual art from local, state, and regional artists, as well as major US and international exhibitions.
 
About the Conte Community Arts Gallery: While the Frist brings art from all over the world to Nashville, the Conte Community Arts Gallery is dedicated to our mission of finding and making connections with local artists. 2024 Young Tennessee Artists will be displayed in this space, which is the major entryway into the Frist Art Museum.
 
About 2024 Young Tennessee Artists: This exhibition is the ninth biennial presentation of two-dimensional artwork created by high school students in AP and IB studio art programs throughout Tennessee during the 2023–24 academic year. A panel of university educators, artists, and curators will select up to 35 works for the exhibition. The Frist Art Museum will mat and frame all works selected for display, which are to be delivered to the museum between May 24 and June 16, 2024. The exhibition will be on view from September 6, 2024, through February 16, 2025. Selected artists, their families, and their teachers will be invited to a reception in December to celebrate the exhibition.
Terms & Conditions
Eligibility: High school students currently enrolled in a certified College Board AP or IB studio art program (i.e., during the 2023–24 academic year) may submit artworks for consideration for this exhibition. If a student’s participation in an AP or IB program cannot be verified, the student’s submissions will be disqualified. All works must have been completed for an AP or IB studio art portfolio during the 2023–24 academic year.

2024 Young Tennessee Artists will feature only two-dimensional artworks. Short films (10 minutes or less in length) are eligible. No three-dimensional works will be considered for inclusion.
 
Submission process: Students must submit their work between February 19 and May 12, 2024 (no later than 11:59 p.m. CDT, when the online system will close). There is no submission fee. Students may submit digital images of up to 10 artworks (including films of up to 10 minutes in length). The maximum size for each work is 36 inches on its longest side. Students must provide accurate dimensions for each work as it would be displayed. File size of each submission must be under 25 MB. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of each submission. By submitting work for consideration, the student artist warrants and represents to the Frist Art Museum that the work is an original creation of the artist and does not infringe upon a third party’s copyright or other intellectual property or other rights.

Permissions granted to the Frist Art Museum: By submitting artwork for consideration, the student certifies that they own the copyright to their work, and they are entitled to license the rights herein on a nonexclusive and gratis basis to the museum. The student grants permission for any of their exhibition artwork to be photographed by the public for personal use and to be photographed, filmed, or telecast for promotional and documentation purposes by the museum or the media while on display. The student grants the museum permission to use any submitted materials in its promotional and educational efforts in support of this exhibition, including but not limited to release of images and media files to the press for editorial review, publication on the Frist’s website and social media pages (at 72 ppi), promotional and marketing endeavors of the museum, publication in print and digital formats in support of the exhibition in components like the exhibition gallery guide or invitation, and any other noncommercial use. The student also understands that the museum will make an effort to include a credit line acknowledging the artist and their work whenever the work is published but that space and other factors are sometimes constraints to this recognition.
