'Two Colors & a Wild Card' Juried Arizona Art Competition
Deadline Extended!! New deadline for entry is Wednesday, March 6, 2024
Intake will be MONDAY, March 18 & TUESDAY, March 19.
Create pieces using two main colors of your choosing, plus a “wild card” – an optional third color of your choosing. Use any colors you like! For example, your two main colors can be blue/orange, and your focal point green or purple! You can use shades, tints and tones of the main colors, and your wild card color will pop! It does not have to be just 3 colors.
Black and white are colors, and they can be used to make shades or tints of the main colors. You can create a black & white photo, with your focal point in bright pink! Your choice - use any two main colors and a third "surprise" color.
Works can be in a wide range of mediums, styles and subject matter. Creations employ metal, paint, wood, mixed media, photography, ceramics, and more.

Juror for this show is: Richard Johnston.
Open to members of Mountain Artists Guild and non-members; Arizona artists in all media encouraged to attend;  an online and in-gallery show.

Ideas for the theme or share your interpretation of 2 Colors & a Wild Card!

More ideas:

Split Complementary: a split-complementary color scheme uses two colors across the color wheel, with those two colors lying on either side of the complementary color. For example, violet's complimentary color is yellow, but its split-complementary colors are yellow-green and yellow-orange.

Duality and Disruption: Choose two contrasting colors (fire and ice, black and white, chaos and calm) as the foundation of your piece. Explore the tension, harmony, or transformation that arises from the interplay of these colors. The "wild card" could be a material, technique, or element that disrupts the balance, adds unexpected twists, or opens new possibilities.

Hidden Meanings: Assign two symbolic colors with contrasting meanings (hope and despair, truth and illusion, growth and decay). Express these meanings through your chosen medium, using the wild card as a way to reveal hidden depths, subvert expectations, or offer personal interpretations.
Emphasize the "wild card" aspect as a chance to take risks and push boundaries. The key is to spark curiosity and enough flexibility to express your unique talents.
